Rally
your friends, and come spend some lazy time on the Hudson River
with a river guide and 6-10 folks
RESERVATIONS ONLY
Meet - Lock 5 Schuylerville
Paddle to Alcove Marina/Pub & Restaurant
Shuttle back to Lock 5
Total
Paddle Trip- Approx 2 hours on the river
Not including time relaxing at the Alcove with appetizers
and a shuttle back to Lock 5
How
many can go?
We need a minimum of 6 and a maximum of
10 to go.
What does the fee include?
Your choice of kayak or canoe (solo or tandem),
all the
necessary equipment: PFD, Paddle, Shuttle back to Lock 5
NYS qualified Guide, dry bag, and appetizers at the Alcove
What do I bring?
If you would like to get a meal at the Alcove, or
drinks, bring money for that.
Appetizers are included, but the pub has a full menu as well. Perhaps
a camera, spare clothes
for the water (should it chill down) & the take out, as well as a
sense of adventure
What do I wear?
Dress in layers, look at the weather, think about
being on the
water for 2 hours, paddling. Wicking clothing
preferred.
For summer-wear breathable, wicking clothing. For Fall,
that would mean no cotton shirts but synthetic fleece or wool, fast drying
clothing, wind block layers, and bring a change for
when you get out. We provide dry bags and can
keep a change of clothes in the van for you.
Do I need experience on the water to go?
This part of
the Hudson is flat and easy to paddle. A guide will be along
to offer basic paddling techniques for those who need it.
Where is Lock 5?
Lock 5 is part of the Champlain Canal System out
of Schuylerville,NY.
At the light where Route 29 & Route 4 divert (at Cumberland Farms
),
head north on Route 4 - you will see the sign for Lock 5 on the Right.
What if I want to paddle my own boat?
You may, the fee would drop to $35.00.
You are still getting a Guide, a spot on this "exclusive trip"-
perhaps
with your friends, and an experience at the Alcove Pub.
Reservations are still required.
What days and hours do you run this trip?
What day is good for you and your
friends? Since this is by reservation only, we
would need advanced notice, and 6-10 people.
Battenkill Valley Outdoors is always willing to
listen to ideas
and create options to meet your needs. Email or call us. We can customize
a day that does work, we would need to meet the min. number to make it
happen, though.
What if I have to get back right after
the paddle?
The van will be at the take out, waiting. We would
hope you would want to
stay and eat at the Alcove Pub, but if duty calls, we can get you
back to Lock 5 ASAP.
What does the Hudson have to do with the Battenkill
valley?
The Battenkill is a twisty stream that makes its
way from north of
Manchester, VT, into New York, and enters
the Hudson right at Lock 5
